HOUSTON, Aug. 10 -- DNO Heather Ltd., a subsidiary of DNO ASA, Oslo, has begun drilling an exploration well on Block 2/5 in the UK North Sea.

The well is 7.5 km southwest of Heather platform, also on Block 2/5, and aims for a target in the adjacent Block 2/4. DNO owns 100% of 2/4 and 2/5.

The well will test the potential recoverable oil resources in an Upper Jurassic-age structure at the western edge of the North Viking Graben. The structure was identified by interpretation of 3D seismic acquired in 1995, said DNO Heather.

DNO estimates Heather field and adjacent satellites' resources, exclusive of the Upper Jurassic structure, at 50 million bbl. Managing Director Helge Eide said the structure has great potential.

If a discovery is made, it will be tied back to the Heather platform.
